Reverend Joseph Teno Jr.
A man of God, who was of great stature physically, but morally and spiritually
as well. God gifted him with a great intellect, great spiritual insight and discernment of the Word of God,
which by the spirit he was gifted to teach and preach. He was a master orator, who touched and changed thousands
of lives throughout his life's work at numerous institutions, working as a chaplin for
over 20 years. He served as Supervising Chaplin at Charity Hospital
In New Orleans for over 17 years before retiring. He had an awesome gift
to counsel and be a part of the healing of hurting souls through that ministry.
His great partner in life and ministry is Eloise Teno, they have three daughters
and one son. Eloise has been a social worker for many years and is still helping families to be made whole in Katy, Texas where she
and some of her family now resides. Pastor Teno was called to found a church called Hope United Baptist Church
in the Gentilly area of the city called Seabrook in 1999, and served the Lord
in pastoring, teaching, and counseling, and served up until 2005, when he lost
his life during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. He
believed that in order for the church to be all God called it to be, each believer
must have an inner and outward walk with Christ daily, which involved practicing
spiritual disciplines. He called them "minimum daily disciplines". For he
understood that growing spiritually doesn't occur spontaneously. Growth comes
as we make certain purposeful responses to life and to the Grace of God. May
He rest in peace in God, our Father's eternal care. Amen, Amen, and Amen...
